Friend's wife delivered in the tenth month of her first preg.and developed this problem a few days later.Apart from this and headache, she is ok.What causes post-delivery facial and feet oedema?
Congratulations to her on the arrival of her new baby! Your friend's wife needs a check up to exclude blood pressure related problems especially as she has headaches as well. Facial and feet oedema can also be a sign of a renal problem. Having said all this, the body accumulates extra fluid during the pregnancy and naturally sheds it afterwards. It is still safer to be checked out and told there's nothing to worry about than assume it would resolve and be faced with a medical emergency. No need to be disturbed as she may get a clean bill of health but better safe than sorry! What causes post-delivery facial and feet oedema?
# Edema (eh-DEEM-uh): Your fingers, feet, and ankles may swell later in pregnancy. Lying down 2 or 3 times a day and raising your legs above your heart for 10 or 15 minutes will reduce the swelling. Your legs will also feel better.
# Lie on your left side while sleeping. In this position the blood flow is better from your legs back to your heart; and this helps prevent swelling.
# Cooking without salt can help reduce swelling. Even though you are retaining water, continue to drink plenty of liquids. Do not use water pills.
# You may want to wear elastic support stockings. They will help your legs feel better.
Call Your Doctor Immediately If...
* You have blood or liquid coming from your vagina.
* You have swelling and puffiness of your face, fingers, or feet.
* You have frequent headaches or headaches that will not go away.
* You vomit more than 3 to 4 times daily.
* You have dizziness, fainting, or blurred vision.
This happened to me and it was due to me having high blood pressure, which I never had prior to or during my pregnancy. My doctor(s) put me on high blood pressure pills, laxis(water pill), and a low sodium diet. I still have bouts with it, but all in all I am doing fine. The headaches I was having post-delivery were due to the high blood pressure, I was told. She needs to notify her doc of her symptoms and get his/her advice. I hope all goes well and she enjoys her new little one.
Tenth month of pregnancy ...lol
