Why and How Are Facial Expressions Tied In With Emotion??

When your sad, you frown, when your happy, you smile. Why is this? Is it an automatic reaction from your face when certain emotions are felt? Or is it because were so used to seeing others do it that it's simply stuck in our thought process. Why and How Are Facial Expressions Tied In With Emotion??
It is actually a built in reaction. There are certian facial expressions that are considered universal, including happiness, sadness, anger and disgust. Almost every culture has the same facial expression, and people who are born blind will still have these facial expressions, although they have never seen them used.

Also, your facial expressions affect your emotions. This is called ';facial feedback.'; If you smile, it will more than likely brighten your mood somewhat, and if you frown, you will become sadder and morose. This is a very basic example, but it really works, there have been multiple psychiatric studies.
